Dental Implants

A dental implant is a post that a dentist inserts into the jawbone. It acts as an artificial tooth root. Once it successfully fuses with the jawbone, the dentist attaches a replacement tooth to the post. The implant acts as an anchor for the replacement tooth, holding it securely in place.

Dental implants are considered the best tooth replacement method available. They are the only tooth replacement option that replicates the entire tooth structure. An implant consists of a root, a connecting abutment, and a dental crown. The root and abutment are made from titanium, making them both biocompatible with the body. The crown works as the visible and functional part of the tooth.

Who Would Need Dental Implants?

Dental implants are an ideal solution when you have suffered tooth loss. Some of the following characteristics are signs that you might need dental implants:

  • You are missing teeth, single or multiple.
  • You have good oral and overall health.
  • You are practicing good oral hygiene.

How Is an Implant Placed?

First, our dentist will surgically place one or more dental implants into your jawline. Then, we will place a healing cap onto the implant. The healing cap allows your gums to heal around them and form a strong bond with the dental implant.

Over the next several weeks, your jawbone and gums will heal. During this time, our dentist will monitor your healing through routine checkups. Once it heals, we will place an abutment over it. It will act as a base for the final restoration. We will take impressions for creating a customized dental crown. Once it is ready, we will place it over the abutment, giving you a natural-looking smile.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

  • Dental implants allow you to eat, speak, and smile with ease.
  • They function like natural teeth and need good oral hygiene to keep them healthy.
  • Implants are surgically fused with your jawbone, making the implant a permanent part of your oral anatomy.
  • Dental implants can improve your self-esteem and restore the full function of your smile. You can enjoy the confidence of a complete, healthy-looking smile.
  • They can fill in the gaps in your smile, improving the appearance of your teeth and gums.
  • They don’t require messy adhesives to stay in place.
