Conceal Cosmetic Concerns Quickly and Easily with Porcelain Veneers
If you are concerned about cosmetic imperfections in your smile such as chips, gaps, and discoloration, porcelain veneers may be a good option for you. At their office in Aurora, CO, Dr. Hua Gao and Dr. Xiaomei Sui offer both traditional and minimal prep veneers for patients who desire a subtle, minimally invasive smile-enhancing treatment. Each veneer is custom-crafted to match the shade and texture of your surrounding teeth and blend seamlessly with your smile.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that cover the front of your teeth to conceal cosmetic concerns, such as discolored or misaligned teeth. Veneers are just one of the many cosmetic treatment options we offer, and are usually best for patients looking to correct several cosmetic flaws in their smile. The procedure is an especially popular treatment for patients because of its comprehensive benefits. Instead of addressing a single cosmetic imperfection, veneers can restore proportion, color, and symmetry to your smile all in one treatment.
Your Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, the doctor will evaluate the health of your smile, determine your candidacy, and discuss your cosmetic treatment options with you. We can provide previews of what your smile can look like after you receive veneers. If you are receiving veneers for multiple teeth, we can provide a wax-up to help you "try on" your new smile prior to the placement of your veneers.
Exploring Your Candidacy
Candidates for veneers include patients with overall healthy teeth and gums. Any restorative work, such as dental fillings, root canal therapy, or periodontal treatments, must be completed before patients can be considered for cosmetic procedures. This not only protects the health of your smile, but ensures that your cosmetic treatment has long-lasting results. Patients considering veneers are often looking to address a combination of cosmetic issues, including teeth that are:
- Misaligned or unevenly spaced
- Too small
- Asymmetrical or unbalanced
Some patients cannot benefit from professional teeth whitening due to deep intrinsic tooth staining or restorative work such as crowns or fillings which do not respond to whitening agents. For these patients, obtaining a whiter, brighter smile is typically only available through porcelain veneer treatment.
How Are Veneers Placed?
The doctor will prep your teeth for veneer placement by removing small amounts of enamel. This alteration allows the veneers to fit comfortably and securely. Our doctors prefer conservative preparation techniques that result in the least amount of enamel removal. The procedure is not painful, although some patients experience minor sensitivity following removal of the enamel.
For many patients, porcelain veneers allow them to achieve the smile of their dreams, with no lengthy orthodontic work or invasive procedures.
Next, dental impressions are taken. These aid the dental laboratory in the fabrication of your custom veneers. Each veneer will be designed and created to blend in seamlessly with your existing smile, in a way that looks and feels natural. While your veneers are being crafted, the dentist may place temporary restorations to protect your teeth.
Once your final veneers are fabricated by the lab ceramists, you will return to our office for a second appointment. The temporary restorations are removed, if applicable, and your final veneers are bonded into place using dental cement. The doctor will make slight adjustments to the veneers as necessary, to ensure balance and uniformity. Placing veneers does not require the use of sedation or surgery. Therefore, patients can return to their daily routine and enjoy their newly enhanced smile almost immediately.
Minimal Prep Veneers
Our dental office uses a variety of brands and manufacturers to give you the most options when it comes to your veneers. If your cosmetic imperfections require fewer levels of porcelain to conceal, we may be able to place minimal prep veneers. Unlike traditional veneers, this less invasive option does not require removal of your tooth enamel. The shaping and alteration of enamel that is necessary for traditional veneers is sometimes what holds patients back from undergoing veneer treatment, since enamel removal is permanent.
Though traditional veneers are safe for teeth, many patients appreciate that minimal prep veneers preserve tooth enamel. This also means that the procedure is completely reversible. Since these veneers are minimal prep, the placement procedure is also more comfortable for patients and can be completed more quickly compared to traditional veneers. Minimal prep veneers can be removed whenever a patient desires. Also, they can last for up to 20 years, just like traditional veneers.
For patients who are looking for a more affordable cosmetic solution, we also offer chair-side resin veneers, also known as dental bonding, as a cost-effective alternative to traditional or minimal prep veneers. It is important to note that dental bonding, on average, lasts about five years and offers less strength and durability than traditional veneers.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers offer a number of benefits due to their aesthetics and long-lasting durability. For many patients, porcelain veneers allow them to achieve the smile of their dreams, with no lengthy orthodontic work or invasive procedures. In addition, many patients choose to receive porcelain veneers because of these benefits:
- Veneers have a high translucency and reflect light in the same way the surrounding teeth do. This delivers an extremely natural-looking cosmetic result.
- Porcelain is stain-resistant, which means you can enjoy a brighter smile without worrying about whitening treatments or avoiding color-rich foods. However, while veneers are impervious to stains, your surrounding teeth will still be subject to discoloration.
- Once placed, veneers can last up to 20 years before needing to be replaced.
- A totally new smile through porcelain veneers can come together in just a couple appointments with Dr. Hua Gao or Dr. Xiaomei Sui.
In addition, for some patients, treatment is more easily attainable through a no-interest payment plan, with a variety of financing options from CareCredit®. Our practice is proud to accept CareCredit® for qualifying patients.
