Treat a Variety of Orthodontic Issues with Invisalign
Many patients want to address misalignment, gaps, or overcrowding in their smiles but are hesitant about committing to a lengthy traditional orthodontic treatment. After a personalized consultation, Dr. Hua Gao can help determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign® treatment. Our office, serving Centennial, Cherry Creek, and Aurora, CO, can perform each phase of Invisalign treatment. Dr. Gao also offers Invisalign Express, an expedited option that achieves minor tooth movement for permanent aesthetic enhancement.
Your Initial Consultation
We begin each Invisalign consultation by educating you on your options and showing you images of other Invisalign patients. For your convenience, we also provide an informational video that can answer questions you may still have about treatment. If Invisalign is a good option for you, we can take x-rays, intraoral photos, and traditional impressions on the same day that we conduct your consultation.
We will send these images to Invisalign technicians who will provide us with an accurate treatment timeline and proposal. If you are pleased with the treatment plan, we will initiate the fabrication of your custom Invisalign aligners. There is no cost associated with the consultation, and if you do not feel comfortable beginning Invisalign or do not qualify for treatment, we can coordinate your treatment with a local orthodontist.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Patients who are considering Invisalign at H&M Family Dentistry likely have several questions about how it works. They may also wonder whether or not they are sacrificing the effectiveness of their treatment by using clear aligners instead of more traditional methods. However, Invisalign is very effective at treating the right cases.
At the heart of its effectiveness is a thorough 3D scan. This serves three main purposes. First, it allows your doctor to visualize your bite accurately and note any adjustments that will need to be made. Secondly, it allows you to see a preview of what that best smile may look like after you have completed treatment. Lastly, the 3D smile scan helps create the aligners that will straighten your teeth over time.
While traditional braces typically require a treatment time of 24 months, the average Invisalign treatment takes about half that time.
On average, Invisalign treatment takes about twelve months. During this time, you will switch to a new set of aligners every two weeks and visit our office to monitor your progress approximately every six weeks. Your aligners will gently reposition your teeth into a straighter, more symmetrical position. To ensure the most effective treatment, your aligners should be worn at least 22 hours per day.
Why Choose Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are transparent and subtle. Those around you will barely notice you are wearing them. You can work on your smile without the aesthetic and uncomfortable side effects of metal braces. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating.
The aligners are not made of metal, nor do they involve brackets. Therefore, patients do not have to worry about broken brackets or discomfort inside their mouth. While traditional braces typically require a treatment time of 24 months, the average Invisalign treatment takes about half that time. Patients who are eligible for Invisalign Express can usually complete their treatment in as little as three to six months.
Are You a Good Candidate?
The desire for convenience and discretion prompts many patients to ask about Invisalign treatment. While Invisalign can resolve most misalignment and malocclusion concerns, unfortunately not every patient is an ideal candidate for this type of treatment.
Age may also be a factor when considering eligibility. Older teenagers and adults typically make great candidates for Invisalign. Younger children may need to wait until all their permanent teeth have grown in before they may use these aligners. Also, because Invisalign is removable, its effectiveness ultimately comes down to dedication. Adults are generally better about following the prescribed guidelines regarding cleaning and how long the device needs to be worn each day.
Keep in mind that this is general information. The only way to know for sure if you would be a good candidate for Invisalign is to consult with your dentists at H&M Family Dentistry. An in-depth evaluation, 3-D scan, and other actions may be necessary to make a final decision. Note also that even in severe cases, some patients may begin with traditional braces and then switch to Invisalign aligners later on.
Dental Concerns Invisalign Can Address
Despite its effectiveness, Invisalign is not suitable for severe cases. However, it can treat many of the same orthodontic issues as traditional braces. For instance, Invisalign can be used to effectively treat:
- Cross bites
- Gapped teeth
- Crowded teeth
When cases are too complex, such as severe overcrowding, patients may need to rely on more traditional forms of braces. Even so, Invisalign has made major advances over the past few years, so those who did not qualify for Invisalign a few years ago may now be eligible at H&M Family Dentistry.
If discretion is a top priority for the patient and Invisalign is not a possibility, there are other treatment options to consider, such as lingual and ceramic braces.
Cost of Invisalign Treatment
Untreated malocclusion or overcrowding can have negative effects on your overall oral health. Investing in Invisalign treatment can help you avoid more costly, restorative procedures in the future. Although the cost of Invisalign will vary depending on the extent of your condition, treatment will typically range anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000. This includes the cost of your retainers, which help prevent your teeth from shifting following treatment. In order to help you finance your treatment, our office accepts CareCredit®. We can discuss payment options during your consultation.
